October 2008

Manillas Named Tennis Family of the Year by USTA Virginia

At USTA Virginia's annual meeting and luncheon on October 25, 2008, CATA President Ron Manilla and his family -- Diana (his wife), sons Dom, Danny and Joey and daughter Anna, were named USTA Virginia Family of the Year.  They are quite a tennis family!  Ron has been a tennis professional for more than 30 years and a fixture at the Boar's Head Sports Club where he is now Tournament Director.  Dom played tennis at Western Albemarle High School and Old Dominion University and is now Assistant Men's Tennis Coach at ODU.  Danny, who also played for ODU, is taking some time off from college, works at the ACAC tennis facility in Charlottesville and won the Julian King Tournament this year.  High School junior Joey is the star player on the Western Albemarle High School Boy's tennis team, led his team to a state championship and won the regional singles and doubles titles last season.  Anna, who ran CATA's Roger Flint Mobile Tennis Program last summer, plays club tennis at ODU.  Diana, as Ron says, "Simply put, makes it all click."
