Jefferson Junior League:

Summer

Jefferson League Tournament Held July 18 - UVA wins.  180 kids participated in this year's Jefferson Junior Tennis League Championship tournament held at UVA's Snyder Courts.

UVA (27 points) won the overall team championship, with Farmington (24) narrowly beating out Boars Head (23) for second place, followed by Forest Lakes (21), Key West (11), Glenmore and ACAC (5 each) and Fairview (2).   Team points are awarded in each division for semi-finalists and higher.  The plaque commemorating this year's victory will be displayed at UVA.

The Charlottesville Area Tennis Association (CATA) sponsors the tourney, pays UVA for the use of the Snyder courts and provides t-shirts to all players and trophies to the winners and runners up in each division.  Thanks to Patrick Kearns, John Morris and Chris Shaw for running the tournament, and to Susie Fidler of UVA who has been the "commissioner" of the Jefferson League for a number of years.

Fall:

Fall Jefferson League Tournament Held - Congratulations everyone!

The Fall Jefferson Junior Tennis League Tournament was held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at Glenmore Country Club.  Youth from Glenmore, Forest Lakes, Farmington, Charlottesville Catholic, UVA and Boars Head participated in the tournament, which was held at the end of the regular fall league season and is sponsored by the Charlottesille Area Tennis Association (CATA).   Though there was a chill in the evening air, the autumn weather did not discourage these young tennis enthusiasts from playing the game they love.    Thanks to Glenmore for the use of their facilities, and special thanks to Mike Moyer, Head Tennis Pro at Glenmore, for doing a fantastic job in running our tournament.  Congratulations to all the kids who played throughout the season, and the 45 entrants in the tournament..  Congratulations also to the following first and second placed winners in each division:   Advanced Division Lee Wilson (Forest Lakes)  - Champion Prescott Angle (Boars Head) -  Finalist Intermediate Division Douglas Corbett  (Forest Lakes) – Champion Joe Squillace  (Charlottesville Catholic School) – Finalist Advanced Beginner Chester Hunter (University of Virginia) – Champion John Milligan (Farmington)  – Finalist
