We are the Charlottesville Area Tennis Associaton (CATA), and are a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).  Our mission is to promote the growth of amateur youth and adult tennis, particularly for the benefit of the underprivileged. 

CATA organizes and supports many long-running programs and events that promote the growth of local tennis. 

• Clinics to introduce younger kids to tennis using USTA’s exciting new QuickStart format (plus training sessions for area PE teachers)
• After School tennis programs for elementary, middle school and high school kids, and the Winter Excellence Program for more advanced juniors.
• Underwriting of the Jefferson Junior Tennis League that provides friendly team and individual-level competition in the summer and fall. 

Our goal is to provide instructional and competitive opportunities year-round for kids of all ages and ability levels.

We are committed to operating outreach programs that serve the underprivileged. 

• The Roger Flint Mobile Tennis Program has been bringing tennis to local playgrounds and recreation centers for nearly 30 years. 
• CATA provides equipment and volunteer instruction to several privately operated programs in our community. 

Over 1500 kids participated in CATA programs in 2009 — you and your children may have benefited from one or more of these programs. We hope you have seen our t-shirts worn with pride by your kids and their tennis friends.

CATA also sponsors awards to recognize spirit, effort and accomplishment in tennis, funds tennis infrastructure for the community, hosts special fun events during the year, and acts as a “clearinghouse” to promote clinics and tournaments offered by others.

Founded in 1967 as a tax-exempt charitable organization and formerly known as the Charlottesville Tennis Patrons Association, we now have a new name, new energy and a broader range of services and programs. 

CATA’s activities are funded through memberships, cash and in-kind donations from area tennis clubs and businesses and volunteer efforts from lots of people.  You can help us by joining today.  We ask for your support so we can continue bringing current and new programs to our community as we work to grow the sport of tennis.
